It's more than just 'thinking outside the box'...

One of my pupils tells me that having a learning difference can lead to more than just 'thinking outside the box'. He tells me that it's more like not even being aware that there is a box! This can lead to excitement, innovation and exceptional success. It can also make it harder for him to jump through the hoops that our examination system involves. He is learning though. He is learning to spend enough time on the 'inside the box' learning, while still leaving him time for the 'outside the box' rejuvenation. His progress hasn't always been even, as he has battled to get the balance between inside and outside the box thinking right. However, in the times when he has achieved this balance, his progress has been impressive. He is young now but he is one I will definitely be looking out for news of in the years to come. If any past pupils are reading this, do get in touch and let me know how you are doing, as I look out for news of you all. After all, the greatest reward of a teacher is the success of her pupils!
