Is she thinking slowly or is she thinking deeply?

Some of the brightest pupils I have supported have been given extra time in examinations for slow processing. My take on it is that they just think more deeply: their brains are making more neural connections, so it just takes more time. When you ask them a question, give them time: count 8 mentally while they frame their thoughts. Their answers to questions are worth waiting for as they may be profound. One such young man, that I supported, was given a prize for being the academic leader at his school and went on to study at Oxford University.
