Building Effective Mini Habits

It's rare that one reads a book that changes one's life but a book I read recently really lived up to its claim to do so.

I have for a long time recognised the value of building a habit, and that habits can sometimes start from mini habits.

It might be that you spend the ten minutes in the car, taking your child to school, testing her on her multiplication tables; it might be that you do some leg raises while you wait for the kettle to boil; or it might be that you practise singing while you clear up after breakfast. These mini habits can make a real difference on their own and sometimes turn into bigger habits.

If you are struggling to establish a particular habit, I highly recommend that you read 'Atomic Habits' by James Clear (https://jamesclear.com/habits ).

I credit this book with getting me back to writing. I started by establishing the mini habit of setting up my writing desk with my old slow laptop ( so no temptation to surf the net or check emails). I do nothing but write at this desk, so when I sit down, the words flow without interruption. I also reward myself, when I write, with a favourite drink.

I am getting no commission from James Clear, I just have to share this book; it has so much power to change your life and your child's life.
